Sissy and I celebrated our first night in Italy with a delicious meal at Renato e Luisa, a small restaurant near Campo di Fiori in Rome. The restaurant came highly recommended by a friend of Sissy, and I am passing along the rec to you, dear readers!
At the suggestion of our adorable waiter, we started with fiori de zucca ripieni gratinati (stuffed zucchini blossoms) and a mixed carpaccio of salmon, halibut and tuna. I LOVED the zucchini blossoms and I could have eaten 10 of them. The carpaccio was also excellent, but the halibut was a little tough for me.
Also at the suggestion of our waiter, we shared a 12€ bottle of white wine called Pecorino from the Abruzzo region. It was light and bright, yet full of flavor. It even stood up to my Carbonara dish!
Speaking of which, I had the most delicious plate of pasta Carbonara in my life. And what made it so delicious was the edition of truffles! Sissy ordered Frascarelli tartufati, or Frascarelli pasta with mushrooms and truffle cream – also an outstanding dish.
I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings us!
